Overall this is the start of what looks like a brilliant fantasy series and I can't wait to read the next book when it is released. The characters are also really well written and Justin has written them in such a way that you are really rooting for them throughout.
The world building was brilliant with enough detail at anyone point for you to know where they were but not too much that you get bogged down in all the detail. I love the way Justin has changed from his comedy fantasy to serious fantasy with ease and the way he has decided to write an epic instead of just a one off really adds to it and shows off his talents. This isn't a bad thing as it looks like the start of an amazing fantasy epic similar to a lot of old authors I used to read.
This book is so different from carpet diem though that it could have been written by a completely different author. I read and listened to Justin's debut novel Carpet Diem a while back amd loved it ao was looking forward to this one.
